Welcome to the website of Penn & Tylers Green Evening WI. The WI is a national organisation which provides women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. 60th Birthday Celebration

It’s 60 years since the Evening WI’s first meeting held in the wooden building that was at the back of the old Horse and Groom pub (where Penn surgery is now). To celebrate the occasion we had a special cake baked for us and invited the Cracklewick Morris dancers to entertain us.
Did you know there were various forms of Morris Dancing? The one most of us are familiar with which is men in white with sticks is “Cotswold Morris Dancing”. We had the old sailor’s version, Border Morris Dancing and Northwest or Clog Morris Dancing demonstrated for us. The decorated sticks represent the shuttle from the looms in the mills. The leader had even invented a “Covid Morris Dance” which involved holding sticks of 2m length to ensure everyone was “properly spaced”!

What do we do?

We meet every month in the Village Hall on the second Thursday of the month with the exception of August. Full details of our programme are available under the Programme tab. Our meetings usually consist of announcements about our own and the County activities, a talk as detailed in our programme and a refreshment break where we catch up with friends and exchange news. In January, we often play silly games (see above)! Visitors are always welcome.

In addition to our monthly meetings, we have a craft/repair group, and a chomp and chatter group which meets at local hostelries. On the 21st August fourteen members visited 'The Cafe' at the Sports and Social Club in Tylers Green. They had a lovely afternoon which was enjoyed by all. Our knit and natter group meets regularly (more nattering than knitting - both are optional!) and we have a book group which meets once a month. See our Activities pages for more details.

One of the fun bits of the WI is meeting members from other WIs throughout the County. Here we are, clearly having a good time, partaking in a light hearted quiz evening at Lane End WI's meeting place.
